What are boys racing jammers?
Bathers. Budgie Smugglers. Togs. Skin Suits. Racers.
Male competition swimwear has come a long way over the past few decades, both in the pool and in open water.
Whether it’s crossing channels, competing in triathlons or pool swimming, with the evolution of men’s swimwear in the 21st century, world records have fallen and expectations have been raised.

In an effort to improve the effectiveness of the swimsuits, at the turn of the century, engineers & designers looked to replicate the low-resistance properties of sea-based animals skin, sharks in particular, to reduce drag in the water.
Jammers are similar to the cycling shorts/bike pants or compression shorts worn by athletes competing in land-based sports. Boys racing jammers are all about speed.
Unlike regular swimsuits, which are designed mainly for a combination of aesthetic appearance and sun protection, the design of boys racing jammers aims to reduce friction and drag in the water, increasing the efficiency of the swimmer’s forward motion.

The form-fitting design of Bon+Co boys racing jammers provide moderate coverage from the mid-waist to just above the knee.
Size-wise, a firm fit is recommended when it comes to boys racing jammers. Our recycled material has enough give to allow for easy movement, but the theory is that a firm fit will help reduce muscle vibration in the water, thereby reducing drag.
As well as use in competition, boys racing jammers are also quite a practical choice for everyday swimwear, offering greater sun-protection than briefs and less chafing than board shorts, when running between sand and surf. Boys racing jammers are becoming an increasingly popular swimwear style for Nippers and Life Savers for these very reasons.
Although there have been a range of technical swimsuits tried and tested by athletes around the world, jammers are currently the most widely FINA approved swimwear for competition use. The jammer style is a clear winner in the water.

When did the racing jammer revolution begin?
The shift to jammers first occurred during the 1996 – 2000 quadrennial.
At the 1996 Olympics, briefs were still the thing to wear in the swimming pool, but by the 2000 Olympics, the transition to fuller-bodied jammer and bodysuit competition swimwear was complete. You may remember the iconic full-body skin suits favoured by Ian Thorpe in the 2000 Olympics.
By the 2008 Beijing Olympics, polyurethane body suits were all the rage and world records were falling at an unprecedented rate. Eventually, governing body FINA pulled back the open swimwear evolution, enforcing explicit swimsuit regulations that disallowed full body suits for male swimmers. By 2010, the majority of men were back to wearing jammers and since then the global drive to jammers, both in the pool and in open water competitive swimming, has been gaining momentum, with no signs of slowing down.

Why choose Bon+Co boys racing jammers?
We’ve already mentioned the functional advantage of jammers as a piece of kit to gain a competitive edge and the practical sensibility of swimwear that stays put.
Bon+Co jammers deliver all of that. But the pros of our boys swimming jammers don’t stop there.
They’re comfy. So comfy. In our design process we made 100% that there would be no uncomfortable seams to rub swimmers the wrong way and cause discomfort (if you know what we mean!).
And they come with an internal waist tie so they won’t fall down or slip when diving in or tumble-turning in the water.

How great they feel on is second only to how good they look.
Our current season boys racing jammers design is inspired by vintage palm trees from from Oahu shores.
